Towards a philanthropic model for African universities

20 July 2019 —- Writing on the University World News website, The Cape Partnership’s Andrew Wigley has pointed to the long-established fundraising models of South African universities as a template for higher education institutions across Africa.

In his article, he looks at the sophisticated strategies deployed by some South African universities in raising funds from philanthropic foundations and trusts, notably in developed economies such as the UK. He draws attention to the fundraising work of the University of Cape Town, Stellenbosch University and Witwatersrand University as examples of successful strategies to tap into the booming sector of international philanthropy.
